A Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) revelou que as vacinas são eficazes contra a nova variante Ômicron do coronavírus, detetcada na África do Sul, ao proteger os infectados que desenvolvem doença grave.
"Não há razão para duvidar" de que as vacinas atuais protegem os doentes infectados com Ômicron contra formas graves de covid-19, afirmou o responsável pela resposta de emergência em saúde pública da OMS, Michael Ryan, em entrevista.
"Temos vacinas muito eficazes que se mostram potentes contra todas as variantes até agora, em termos de gravidade da doença e hospitalização, e não há razão para acreditar que não seja o caso" com a Ômicron, disse Ryan, acrescentando que estão no início estudos da variante, detectada apenas em 24 de novembro e que já foi registrada em cerca de 40 países.(AgBr)
